Senior Infrastructure & Systems Engineer – Contract Opportunity
NV1 Security Clearance Required 
ONSITE IN CANBERRA 


We are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure & Systems Engineer to join a high‑performing technical team on a time‑and‑materials contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation, optimisation and uplift of a complex virtualised and physical ICT environment, ensuring stability, security and continuous improvement across core platforms and services. This role requires deep hands‑on expertise across VMware, Windows Server, automation, SOE management and enterprise infrastructure, along with strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a small, specialised team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain virtual and physical infrastructure using:
    • VMware ESXi (v7+), vCenter (v7+), VMware Cloud Foundation (v9+)
    • Windows Server 2016, 2022, 2025
    • Active Directory, Group Policy, WSUS
    • Windows 10/11 SOE management
    • NetBackup
    • PowerShell for automation and administration
Configuration, Availability & Security Management
  • Maintain accurate configuration management records for hardware, software and connected environments, including periodic audits.
  • Oversee capacity and availability management to ensure reliable service delivery.
  • Maintain security accreditation through continuous monitoring, vulnerability assessments, patching and configuration hardening.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for security risk assessments and threat analysis.
Change, Deployment & Application Support
  • Manage change processes for core infrastructure and user environments.
  • Install, configure and administer enterprise applications across Windows and Linux servers.
  • Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, training material and configuration records.
  • Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, extensions and design improvements through written and verbal input.
Collaboration & Technical Guidance
  • Provide technical advice to internal stakeholders and partner organisations.
  • Support capability development initiatives and contribute to emerging technology adoption.
  • Deliver ad‑hoc technical services as required.
  • Operate effectively within a small, collaborative engineering team.

Desirable Technical Experience
  • CCNA‑level networking knowledge
  • Microsoft SharePoint and Exchange (2013+) administration
  • Linux (RHEL) server administration
  • Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
  • PowerCLI scripting
  • Azure / Microsoft 365 administration
  • Nutanix / HCI platforms
  • GitLab for version control and automation

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or related fields.
  • Practical experience with:
    • Containerisation technologies
    • Virtualisation platforms
    • Automation and scripting (PowerShell, GitLab, Ansible)
    • Cisco networking technologies
    • VMware/Broadcom hypervisor technologies
  • 10+ years’ experience in SOE administration, datacentre engineering or application packaging/integration.
  • 5+ years’ experience implementing system security controls (e.g., ISM, STIG) on Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Strong documentation skills (SOPs, As‑Built documents, HLDs).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience in client‑facing support or consulting roles.

Engagement Details
  • This RFQ is for one dedicated specialist for the duration of the contract.
  • Shared‑resource or multi‑contractor delivery models will not be accepted.
  • The contractor must be able to perform duties independently without reliance on their parent company.
  • A three‑month probation period applies to all new engagements.
  • The role reports directly to the assigned Team Lead or delegated management.
