About the Role:
In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, performance, availability, and security of SQL Server database environments that support critical business and operational systems. You will work closely with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure databases are reliable, optimised, and aligned with organisational requirements.
This is a full-time position based in Canberra. The successful candidate will be required to work onsite and participate in an on-call support roster, which may include occasional after-hours or weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
- Perform database backup, restoration, and recovery activities to ensure business continuity.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning and optimisation strategies.
- Identify and resolve database performance issues, bottlenecks, and system incidents.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Implement and maintain database security controls to protect sensitive information.
- Ensure database platforms comply with relevant government policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and project teams to deliver database solutions and improvements.
- An active AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance.
- Proven experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Strong experience with SQL Server user administration, permissions, and security management.
- Experience designing and managing SQL maintenance plans, scheduled jobs, and backup strategies.
- Strong knowledge of database performance monitoring, tuning, and optimisation techniques.
- Experience with database recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
