Senior Automation & Systems Engineer (Contract)
12 months + 
ACTIVE NV1 REQUIRED 


We are seeking a highly capable Senior Automation & Systems Engineer to join a specialised technology team on a time‑and‑materials contract. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving infrastructure challenges, and brings deep experience across automation, orchestration and enterprise systems.

About the Role
You will be responsible for enhancing, supporting and modernising a diverse systems environment spanning Windows, virtualisation platforms, enterprise applications and distributed networks. The position requires strong technical judgement, the ability to work independently, and a passion for building reliable, secure and scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain automation workflows using:
    • PowerShell / PowerCLI
    • Ansible
    • GitLab
    • Terraform, Packer and other DevOps toolsets
  • Improve configuration consistency, reduce manual effort and streamline operational processes.
Systems & Network Support
  • Support both mobile and fixed network environments across:
    • Windows Server 2016+ and Windows 10/11
    • Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, NPS, PKI
    • Enterprise security and endpoint protection tools
  • Optional exposure to Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server and RDS.
Application & Platform Administration
  • Install, configure and maintain software applications across Windows and Linux servers.
  • Ensure systems remain stable, secure and aligned with organisational standards.
Architecture, Documentation & Governance
  • Produce system design documentation, configuration records and operational procedures.
  • Maintain version control and configuration integrity across test, development and production environments.
  • Contribute to capability uplift initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies for future adoption.
Collaboration & Technical Advisory
  • Provide expert guidance to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Support capability development activities and contribute to innovation initiatives.
  • Deliver additional technical services as required within a small, high‑performing team.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in systems engineering, SOE management or enterprise infrastructure roles.
  • Strong background in automation, scripting and DevOps practices (PowerShell, GitLab, Ansible).
  • Experience working with distributed or remote network environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security frameworks such as the Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, operate autonomously and integrate seamlessly into a collaborative team.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications in IT, systems engineering or related fields.
