Senior Gateway Engineer
Clearence - Negative Vetting One (Australian Citizen)
ACT- CANBERRA 
$140- 170 p/h inclusive of super 
12 Month Contract 


We are seeking an experienced Senior Gateway Engineer to play a key role in the delivery, management, and optimisation of secure gateway and networking services. This role requires deep expertise in complex ICT platforms and infrastructure, with a focus on ensuring robust, reliable, and secure operations across critical environments. You will work collaboratively with external service providers, technical specialists, and architecture teams to support both current operations and future infrastructure needs.
The position offers a high level of independence and requires sound judgement to balance technical decision-making with broader organisational objectives. It is well-suited for professionals who thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy taking ownership of solutions that underpin secure digital services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate infrastructure solutions to meet evolving organisational requirements.
  • Provide advanced technical support for project delivery, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, implementation strategies, test plans, and support processes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, strategies, and change initiatives.
  • Participate in change management activities, ensuring configuration updates are well understood across stakeholders.
  • Deliver specialist advice to senior leaders and act as a subject matter expert across the organisation.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and foster a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Research emerging technologies and provide recommendations on their adoption and integration.
  • Collaborate with external partners and agencies to build service capability and influence positive business outcomes.
  • Manage high availability, backup, and disaster recovery solutions across systems.
  • Oversee regular patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of gateway and networking platforms.
  • Administer and maintain gateway-related network infrastructure.
  • Work with a range of technologies including F5/Blue Coat load balancing and proxy systems, Cisco ACI and Nexus switches, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), Palo Alto firewalls, VPN solutions, Infoblox DNS/email, and hybrid/public cloud integrations.
