About the Role
My client is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Electronics Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge hardware systems for high-fidelity military vehicle driver simulation. This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for delivering innovative and reliable electronics solutions—including driver cabin instrumentation, custom PCBs, and system-level electrical architecture. As the Senior Electronics Engineer, you will guide a team of engineers and technicians, ensure high-quality hardware outcomes, and play a critical role in shaping the next generation of their  Reconfigurable Driver Simulator (RDS) platform.

Why Join?

  • Work on cutting-edge military simulation systems with national and international impact
  • Be part of a growing Australian company leading in defence simulation technology
  • Collaborate in a high-performance team within a world-class innovation environment
  • Enjoy the flexibility and influence of working in a focused, agile organisation

Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & System Design
  • Lead and mentor a team of electronics engineers and technicians.
  • Design and document system-level electrical architectures for the RDS and its sub-systems.
  • Develop reusable and modular electrical designs aligned with project and platform requirements.
  • Oversee schematic design, PCB layout (using Altium), fabrication, and integration testing of custom driver instrument panels.
  • Develop system, sub-system, and component-level specifications aligned with systems engineering practices.
Hardware Development
  • Design, simulate, and test electronic systems including power distribution, digital/analog circuitry, and communication interfaces.
  • Create cabling designs for AC/DC power, signal, and control systems.
  • Select components optimised for performance, cost, reliability, and availability.
  • Ensure EMI/EMC compliance and apply best practices for PCB layout and cable management.
  • Drive design for manufacturability, testability, and maintainability.
Testing, Documentation & Production Support
  • Develop both manual and automated test systems for validating electronic hardware.
  • Create clear and accurate BOMs and technical documentation to support manufacturing and quality assurance.
  • Support prototyping, testing, production rollout, and troubleshooting of electronic systems.
  • Assist with transitioning new designs to production and maintaining legacy systems.
  • Participate in customer site visits to survey vehicles for future simulator cabin replications.
Collaboration & Innovation
  • Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams including RF, mechanical, and production engineers.
  • Contribute to the development of proprietary technology, IP, and innovative design solutions.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in electronic hardware design and development
  • Proficiency in PCB design and layout using Altium
  • Solid experience in digital and analog circuit design
  • Strong understanding of EMI/EMC design practices
  • Experience with microcontroller-based systems and safety-critical hardware
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, RS-485, TCP/UDP)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead hardware projects from concept to production
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian and international electronics standards
Desirable Skills - Not Essential
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Proficiency in C++ or embedded software development
  • Familiarity with defence or simulation technologies
Key Result Areas (KRAs)
  • Deliver compliant, high-quality hardware designs that meet scope and customer requirements
  • Advance in-house PCB prototyping and electronic production capabilities
  • Build internal capabilities toward a mature, production-ready hardware engineering function
  • Provide accurate design effort estimations and maintain engineering metrics
  • Report monthly on team progress and key milestones
