The Role
We’re seeking a Senior Data Engineer  to join a leading Melbourne CBD technology business. You’ll help shape a modern, multi-layered data lake, migrate and structure legacy systems, and integrate real-time and batch processing. This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineer who thrives in complex environments and wants to influence technical direction and team growth.
 
What You’ll Be Doing

• Design & Deliver: Build scalable, reliable data pipelines using Python, PySpark, DBT, and Terraform.
• Modernise: Evolve a multi-layered data lake (CDC, bronze/silver/gold patterns) using AWS, Kafka, Databricks.
• Transform & Migrate: Lead bulk data transitions from legacy systems with AWS Glue and PostgreSQL.
• Integrate: Blend real-time and batch processing capabilities into a unified architecture.
• Collaborate: Work closely with software engineering, product, and analytics teams to deliver high-value data products.
• Mentor: Provide technical guidance and best practices to engineers and analysts.
• Influence: Contribute to technical direction, challenge assumptions, and champion continuous improvement.

• Advanced skills in Python, SQL, PySpark, and DBT.
• Proven experience with AWS (S3, Glue, Lambda, etc.), Databricks, Kafka, and Terraform.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, ingestion, and transformation patterns.
• Experience with both greenfield projects and legacy system migrations.
• Ability to bridge the gap between data engineering and software delivery.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
