The Opportunity
A major federal program is kicking off a series of large‑scale transformation initiatives, and we’re looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer to help shape, build and modernise core application environments. This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working in Agile teams and delivering secure, cloud‑native solutions that stand up to government‑level scrutiny.
You’ll join a high‑performing digital team responsible for uplifting cloud capability across a suite of enterprise applications. Working in a hybrid environment in Canberra’s CBD, you’ll contribute to design, automation, refactoring and delivery activities that support a modern Azure‑based ecosystem.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building and enhancing Azure cloud services including policies, app services, SQL databases, Key Vault, Front Door and enterprise landing zones.
- Developing Infrastructure‑as‑Code artefacts to automate provisioning, configuration and environment consistency.
- Modernising and refactoring legacy applications to adopt cloud‑native patterns and services.
- Producing high‑quality solution designs and contributing to architectural discussions.
- Participating in daily Agile ceremonies and managing work items through Azure DevOps.
- Ensuring all cloud solutions align with best practice, government cyber overlays and Essential Eight maturity expectations.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong experience delivering Azure‑based “as‑a‑service” capabilities, including secure network design and cloud security at an Official level.
- Background in designing and implementing both on‑premises and cloud‑hosted solutions.
- Understanding of systems engineering principles for complex ICT environments.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance across one or more cloud domains.
- Hands‑on experience with ARM templates, Bicep or Azure CLI.
- Experience modernising legacy applications to leverage cloud‑native services.
- Practical experience migrating SQL Server workloads to Azure SQL or SQL Managed Instance.
