Our client are a well known enterprise organisation and due to a large amount of funding & growth within the organisation, they are looking for a Principal Platform Engineer to work across their Cloud & DevOps environment. The company are going through a large platform & DevOps transformation where there is a push to move away from ClickOps and cloud as a service, instead you will be guiding the application teams to adopt new PaaS services securely, define guardrails, and codify best practices.
From a technology perspective, you will need experience working with AWS & Terraform.
You will also work with Jenkins, Dynatrace, Splunk, Python and Kubernetes (but these aren't all mandatory)
As a Principal Engineer, your time will be split being hands on, alongside influencing and advising other engineer's on best practice etc.
You will work from home 50% of the time, plus receive flexibility in your day to day too. They are results driven and trust you to get the job done. You need to be based in Brisbane, and Sydney is considered too.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead hands-on platform engineering on AWS, including Terraform-based infrastructure
- Drive improvements in platform standards, guardrails, and best practices across the organisation.
- Mentor and coach engineers, sharing knowledge and helping teams adopt platform standards.
- Participate in cross-team forums to share learnings, understand what is working and what isn’t, and influence platform decisions.
- Work across Observability, Scripting & CI/CD Pipelines
- Proven experience at Principal or Staff Engineer level, ideally in a large enterprise environment (Not a deal breaker if not with an enterprise)
- Deep hands-on experience in AWS – must be AWS-first; Azure optional.
- Strong experience with Terraform, including modules, remote state, and policy enforcement
- Observability tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, or Splunk.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and provide technical leadership across teams.
- Strong knowledge of cloud governance, compliance, and enterprise standards.
