About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Network Systems Administrator to join a secure, Defence-aligned environment. This role sits between an ICT Administrator and a Network Systems Administrator and is ideal for someone who enjoys working hands-on across systems, infrastructure, and networking.
You will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and expanding a standalone network within a DSTG setting. The position requires a strong focus on reliability, performance, and security, with work spanning Linux systems, virtualised environments, and network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and support Linux-based systems
- Manage and maintain virtualised infrastructure (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V or similar)
- Support and troubleshoot network systems, including switching, routing, and connectivity issues
- Monitor system performance and ensure high availability across infrastructure
- Implement and maintain security controls aligned with ISM and Defence standards
- Assist with system upgrades, patches, and configuration management
- Support the expansion and continuous improvement of a standalone network environment
- Maintain documentation and contribute to standard operating procedures
Skills & Experience
- Experience in a similar role across systems and network administration
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux environments
- Experience with virtualisation platforms and infrastructure management
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching)
- Familiarity with security-hardened environments and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISM)
- Experience working in secure or Defence environments is highly regarded
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple domains
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
Desirable
- Exposure to air-gapped or standalone network environments
- Scripting or automation experience (e.g. Bash, Python)
- Relevant certifications (e.g. RHCSA, CCNA, Security+)
- Current or ability to obtain a Defence security clearance
