Are you a Linux expert with a Defence (ADF) background looking to work on mission-critical platforms that directly support Australia’s operational readiness?
Our client is seeking a Linux System Administrator to support the Joint Collective Training Branch (JCTB) and its Joint Simulation Training Environment (JSTE), a highly secure, complex environment underpinning Defence simulation and training operations.
The Role
You will be responsible for the operation, management, and sustainment of Linux-based infrastructure supporting key Defence networks, including:
- Defence Training and Experimentation Network (DTEN)
- Combined Federated Battle Laboratories Network (CFBLNet)
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support enterprise Linux environments (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu or similar)
- Perform system configuration, patching, hardening, and performance tuning
- Manage virtualised environments and underlying infrastructure
- Support high availability and system resilience for mission-critical platforms
- Troubleshoot complex issues across OS, compute, storage, and integrated systems
- Contribute to system builds, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with Defence security standards and accreditation requirements
- Provide support to live simulation exercises and operational events
- Extensive experience within Defence or Defence-aligned environments (ESSENTIAL)
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux system administration (enterprise environments)
- Experience working in highly secure, classified environments
- Understanding of ITIL-based service management
- Exposure to virtualisation (VMware/KVM) and enterprise storage solutions
- Ability to operate in high-pressure, mission-critical scenarios
- Work on nationally critical Defence platforms
