Infrastructure Technical Lead Federal Government Contract - Canberra

We are currently seeking an experienced Infrastructure Technical Lead to support a major government department in upgrading and enhancing its ICT environment. This is a high-impact role, ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments and enjoys driving technical change.

About the Role: In this role, you'll take ownership of modernising and securing critical infrastructure. From designing upgrade strategies for ageing systems to leading technical planning and implementation, your work will directly support core business functions across cloud and on-premise platforms.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams, external vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure solutions — while ensuring alignment with government ICT strategies and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the discovery, analysis, and planning of End of Life (EOL) and End of Support (EOS) system replacements.

  • Develop and document strategies to remediate infrastructure risks and modernise environments.

  • Work with external ICT providers and internal business owners to plan and implement improvements.

  • Ensure alignment of all solutions with the department’s cloud/on-premise models.

  • Manage the smooth transition of solutions to operational (BAU) teams.

  • Interrogate and manage data across internal systems to support operational needs.

  • Collaborate across teams to identify pain points and gather business requirements.

  • Lead technical delivery planning, managing dependencies, risks, budgets, and timeframes.

  • Coordinate with multiple vendors and ensure technical assurance under tight deadlines.

  • Ensure project delivery aligns with governance and compliance requirements.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and continuously develop your technical expertise.

Technical Skills Required: We’re looking for a well-rounded infrastructure professional with hands-on experience in a variety of systems and technologies, including:

  • Cloud platforms – Azure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)

  • Operating systems – Windows Server, Linux/Unix

  • Core services – Active Directory (AD), DNS, PKI, NTP, Microsoft Exchange

  • Infrastructure tooling – Monitoring, logging, VDI, and automation (CI/CD pipelines)

What We’re Looking For:
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering complex infrastructure solutions.

  • Strong leadership in managing technical projects and stakeholder engagement.

  • Deep understanding of both cloud and on-premise environments.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Why Apply?
  • Work on a high-profile government program with national impact.

  • Join a collaborative team of experts driving digital transformation.

  • Flexible work options – Canberra-based or remote.

  • Long-term engagement with potential for extensions.

Apply now if you have the technical depth, leadership, and drive to take infrastructure strategy to the next level.

Must be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain or hold a Baseline clearance.
