Infrastructure Architect (NV1)

Adelaide | Hybrid working enviroment (Edinburgh S.A + CBD + 2 days WFH)

Lead All Future Infrastructure Design Projects

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to support complex, multi‑disciplinary software and data‑centric Defence environments.

This is a newly created role, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the organisation’s infrastructure design function from day one and ultimately lead all future infrastructure design projects.
This position sits at the centre of a highly secure, air‑gapped ecosystem where software engineers, data specialists and DevSecOps teams build cutting‑edge Defence applications. Your work will ensure that the underlying infrastructure — virtual machines, container platforms, orchestration layers and CI/CD‑ready environments — remains robust, secure and aligned with architectural standards.

This is not a greenfield architecture role. Instead, you will initally  run, maintain and evolve existing infrastructure designs, ensuring large, complex environments continue to operate smoothly and securely.

Beyong this, you will shape the organisation’s infrastructure design capability, influencing standards, processes and the technical direction for future Defence‑aligned projects.

Why This Role Matters

Modern Defence software development relies on highly secure, air‑gapped environments where teams can safely build, test and deploy mission‑critical applications.

This role ensures those environments:
  • Provide stable, secure virtualised infrastructure for multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps workflows
  • Enable containerised and Kubernetes‑based deployments
  • Meet strict Defence security and compliance requirements
Beyond the inital project, you will become the principal authority for infrastructure design, leading future projects and setting the standard for how secure environments are architected and maintained.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Maintaining and updating HLDs, SEDs and engineering documentation
  • Ensuring infrastructure supports software engineering, data analytics and DevSecOps teams
  • Designing and adapting infrastructure for air‑gapped, highly secure Defence environments
  • Creating and maintaining technical diagrams, architectural drawings and system models
  • Supporting environments built on virtual machines, Kubernetes, containerisation and automation
  • Ensuring infrastructure aligns with CI/CD and secure deployment practices
  • Integrating designs with broader architecture, engineering and security teams
  • Working closely with SMEs to validate and refine design artefacts
  • Leading the evolution of the organisation’s infrastructure design function for future client work

What You’ll Bring

Mandatory
  • Current NV1 security clearance
  • Experience working within Defence or other secure environments
  • Background in infrastructure architecture or infrastructure engineering
  • Strong capability in documentation, diagramming and architectural modelling
  • Experience with low‑side cloud environments
  • Understanding of virtualisation, containerisation, Kubernetes and DevSecOps‑aligned infrastructure
Beneficial
  • Experience with OpenShift or other container orchestration platforms
  • Familiarity with Defence architecture frameworks and standards
  • Exposure to CI/CD‑ready infrastructure and secure build environments

Work Model
  • Onsite at secure facilities
  • Adelaide CBD office
  • 2 days WFH each week (subject to project and security requirements)

If you’re looking for a role where you can take ownership, influence future projects and lead the evolution of secure Defence‑aligned infrastructure, apply now.
