I’m working with a key Defence delivery program supporting a major ERP transformation initiative, and we’re seeking an experienced Enterprise Azure Architect to take a senior technical leadership role across a complex, secure cloud environment.
This is a high-impact position operating within Protected-level classification environments, where you will shape architecture, governance, and cloud adoption across critical Defence systems.
The Opportunity
You will be responsible for leading the design and governance of enterprise-grade Microsoft Azure solutions, ensuring alignment with Australian Government security and architectural standards.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the design of secure, enterprise Azure architectures across multi-domain environments
- Develop and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and architectural standards
- Architect solutions aligned to IRAP-assessed Azure regions (Australia Central / East)
- Ensure compliance with ISM, PSPF, and ACSC Essential Eight frameworks
- Design for Protected-level security requirements including identity, encryption, segmentation, and sovereignty controls
- Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and modern DevOps practices
- Provide trusted architectural advice to senior Defence stakeholders
- Support engineering teams through delivery while maintaining architectural integrity
- Mentor technical staff and uplift capability across the program
We’re looking for a seasoned architect who has operated in secure government or Defence environments, with strong Azure depth and a practical understanding of delivering at scale.
Key experience:
- 8+ years in enterprise architecture, including 4+ years in Microsoft Azure
- Strong experience delivering within Australian Federal Government environments
- Deep knowledge of Azure IaaS, PaaS, networking, identity (Entra ID), and security tooling
- Strong understanding of ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight, and IRAP processes
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions)
- Ability to produce HLDs, LLDs, and detailed architecture documentation
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and executive audiences
- Experience within Defence or similar environments
- Exposure to ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle, TechnologyOne) and cloud integration/migration
- Microsoft certifications (AZ-305, AZ-500, SC-100)
- Experience with VMware to Azure migration strategies (Azure Migrate, AVS)
- Experience with Microsoft Sentinel or SIEM/SOAR platforms
- TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
- Experience with Microsoft 365 hybrid environments and Purview
- Active AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance (minimum)
- Australian Citizenship
