An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Engineering Team Leader to lead a team of engineers delivering complex engineering outcomes across the full product and project lifecycle. This role combines technical leadership, people management, engineering governance, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the successful delivery of engineering activities to time, cost, quality, and safety requirements.
You will play a pivotal role in guiding technical decision-making, developing engineering capability within the team, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership
- Lead technical investigations, problem solving, and engineering analysis.
- Make informed engineering decisions and provide recommendations based on technical expertise and experience.
- Oversee the delivery of engineering activities, ensuring objectives are met within schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
- Produce and review technical documentation, engineering reports, and technical solutions.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure documentation is managed appropriately throughout the product lifecycle.
- Lead technical reviews and present engineering outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct technical risk assessments and support effective risk management practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, procedures, and governance requirements.
- Support product safety activities and engineering assurance throughout the lifecycle.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes and systems.
- Contribute to business development activities, including technical inputs for bids and proposals.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineering professionals.
- Support succession planning, capability development, and technical competency growth.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
- Coach team members, provide performance feedback, and support career development.
- Assist with workforce planning and resource allocation to meet business objectives.
- Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate technical information clearly across multidisciplinary teams.
- Promote knowledge sharing and best-practice engineering approaches across the organisation.
- Support cross-functional collaboration to achieve successful project outcomes.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of engineering design, analysis, manufacturing, and support disciplines across the product lifecycle.
- Experience producing and reviewing technical reports and engineering documentation.
- Solid understanding of:
- Product Safety and Quality Management processes.
- Technical Risk Management.
- Configuration Management.
- Engineering Change Management.
- Experience using engineering systems and toolsets such as PLM, MRP, design, simulation, or analysis platforms.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to prioritise workloads and lead teams to successful outcomes.
- Previous experience leading engineering teams or acting as a technical authority.
- Experience within defence, aerospace, maritime, heavy engineering, or similarly regulated industries.
- Experience with Teamcenter, IFS, NX CAD, or comparable engineering systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline accredited under the Washington Accord, or equivalent qualifications enabling professional engineer membership.
- Approximately 6+ years' experience in relevant engineering roles.
- Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership, will be highly regarded.
- Commitment to ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
- Must currently hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1 or equivalent).
- Ability to access and work with controlled or sensitive technical information where required.
