About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Technical Lead to play a key role in establishing and evolving our modern data platform capability. Working within an emerging Data & AI Enablement function, you will provide deep technical leadership across architecture, platform design, and engineering delivery. This is a hands-on technical leadership role suited to someone who enjoys defining technical direction while remaining close to the technology and implementation. You will help shape the organisation's data engineering strategy, establish best-practice patterns, and build scalable, secure, and reliable data solutions that support current business needs and future AI ambitions.
What You'll Be
- Define and drive the technical vision for data engineering across the organisation.
- Lead architectural decisions that support scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
- Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices for modern data platforms.
- Provide technical leadership to engineers and stakeholders, influencing decisions across teams.
- Design, implement, and evolve modern cloud-based data architectures.
- Build data lakehouse solutions using industry-leading technologies and practices.
- Develop and enhance Medallion architecture patterns for data ingestion, transformation, and consumption.
- Design event-driven data ingestion frameworks and streaming architectures.
- Contribute to enterprise architectural discussions and translate strategy into practical implementation.
- Ensure platform observability, governance, security, and operational excellence are embedded by design.
- Build and optimise data pipelines using AWS-native services, Databricks, and modern orchestration frameworks.
- Design and implement scalable batch and real-time data processing solutions.
- Develop and manage event-driven data flows and streaming workloads using Kafka.
- Work across the full data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation through to modelling and consumption.
- Mentor and guide data engineers on architecture, engineering practices, tooling, and delivery approaches.
- Support the uplift of engineering capability and maturity across the organisation.
- Promote a culture of quality, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Establish standards for data quality, observability, lineage, modelling, and platform reliability.
- Contribute to governance frameworks that support compliance, consistency, and trust in data.
- Drive best practices for operational support, monitoring, and platform performance.
You'll be a highly capable data engineering professional with a strong blend of technical leadership, architecture expertise, and hands-on delivery experience.
