Chief Engineer – Data
Sydney or Gold Coast | $250–$280k + bonus + super
This is a rare opportunity to join a major enterprise-wide transformation program as Chief Engineer within the Data Engineering function. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical strategy and execution of one of the largest data initiatives in the country, working alongside senior technology leaders to drive innovation, challenge the status quo, and set the foundations for the future.
The role
- Act as the senior technical authority for data engineering, automation, ETL and emerging technologies.
- Provide thought leadership, solve complex technical problems, and keep large vendor teams accountable.
- Help build a new, high-performing engineering culture—driving tool and AI adoption, frameworks and innovation.
- Collaborate closely with domain owners, program directors and architects.
- Influence technical direction across Teradata, Informatica, Hadoop, Python, PySpark, and Azure Synapse.
- Shape greenfield work, including a large-scale move to cloud and modernisation of ETL and big data platforms.
- Deep expertise across data engineering and large-scale platforms (Teradata, Informatica, Hadoop, Synapse).
- Strong capability in automation, scheduling, and frameworks (Control-M, Stirling, batch, PySpark, Python).
- Proven ability to challenge vendors, drive technical quality, and provide hands-on guidance.
- A strategic yet pragmatic mindset—able to balance immediate delivery with long-term architecture.
- Excellent stakeholder skills and presence to engage with senior leadership.
